This article provides step-by-step instructions to help employees resolve common network connectivity problems. Follow these guidelines to quickly troubleshoot issues before contacting the IT Helpdesk.
Common Network Issues
- Unable to connect to Wi-Fi

Before You Proceed
- Ensure your device is powered on and fully charged or plugged in.
- Confirm you are within range of the company’s Wi-Fi network or connected via Ethernet cable.
- Make sure airplane mode is turned off.
Step-by-Step Troubleshooting Guide
1. Verify Network Connection

Wi-Fi:
- Click the Wi-Fi icon on your taskbar/menu bar.
- Ensure you are connected to the company’s network (SSID: CompanyWiFi).
- If not connected, select CompanyWiFi and enter your credentials.

Ethernet:
- Confirm the Ethernet cable is securely plugged into your device and the wall port.
2. Restart Network Devices
- Restart your computer, laptop, or tablet.
- If possible, restart your Wi-Fi router or modem by unplugging it for 10 seconds and plugging it back in. (Contact IT if you do not have access to these devices.)
3. Run Network Troubleshooter (Windows)
- Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status.
- Click Network troubleshooter and follow the prompts.
4. Clear DNS Cache (Advanced)
- Open Command Prompt (Windows) or Terminal (Mac).
- Type the following command and press Enter:
- Windows:
ipconfig /flushdns - Mac:
sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
- Windows:
- Restart your device.
5. Check VPN Settings
- Disconnect and reconnect to the company VPN if you use one.
- Ensure you have the latest VPN client installed.
6. Verify Firewall and Security Software
- Temporarily disable firewall or antivirus software to check if they are blocking the connection. (Contact IT before making changes.)

- The above steps do not resolve your issue.
- You see error messages such as "Limited Connectivity" or "No Internet Access."
- Your device hardware (network card, cables) may be faulty.
